Robert Laughlin

To Terry’s surprise, the Turkish cops let him call a lawyer he knew. Now everything would be alright.
The interrogator held up a marijuana brick. “Who sold you this?”
“My client doesn’t have to answer that question,” said the lawyer.
      “I didn’t ask you. Who’s your dealer?”
      “Don’t say a thing.”
Terry stuck out his jaw. “My name’s Joe Blow. Ask me again and you still won’t know.”
The Turkish cops kicked Terry and his lawyer in the groin, and let them slide to the floor.
“You know,” gasped the lawyer, “it wouldn’t hurt to be a bit more cooperative.”

Robert Laughlin lives in Chico, California. He is the creator of the Micro Award, an annual competition for previously published flash fiction. Two of his short stories are MWA Notable Stories, and his first novel, Vow of Silence, is available from Trytium.
